The Furnace

The furnace is where the glass is melted and kept molten.  Glass is a mixture of silica (sand) and chemicals which are put into the furnace and melted down (charged).  The furnace is kept at approximately 2100 F and run 24 x 7 x 365.  The furnace is run on natural gas and forced air which is one of the reasons why the price of handcrafted glass is so high.
