A punty is a long, thin, solid piece of steel, which is used for many purposes in the glass blowing process. When the piece of glass is blown to the desired shape, it is then "puntied". A small amount of glass is gathered on the end of the punty, and then shaped and cooled a bit. It is then pressed onto the bottom of the blown shape, and then the piece is broken off the blowpipe and transferred to the punty. Punties can also be used to bring hot "bits" of glass to the bench.
