The Blowpipe

A blowpipe is a long tube of hollow steel with a handle at one end.  Glass is gathered on the tip of the blowpipe and then blown into the desired shape.  It is important to treat the blowpipe with respect as they are easily bent.  The blowpipe often gets very hot to the touch, in which case, it is simply chilled in the pipe cooler.  A blowpipe must be slightly glowing at the tip before a gather of glass is taken.  Be careful not to gather too far up the pipe, 2 or 3 inches will be plenty!  And, always blow.  Don't suck!
